The epic creation story of quartzite: A masterpiece of nature

Quartzite is not just a natural stone - it is a witness to the history of our planet's formation and evidence of the geological wonders that have occurred over millions of years. The quartzite is a reflection of this origin story.

Based on the geological history of the formation of natural stones, they are mainly divided into three main types of rocks: igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks. Each of these species arises in different ways and has its own characteristic properties.

The quartzites that this article is about are metamorphic rocks consisting primarily of quartz grains and formed by the metamorphism of sandstone.  Quartzites have exceptional resistance to weather influences and a high load-bearing capacity. As far as aesthetics are concerned, quartzites are particularly decorative and unusual. Quartzites are often a little more unusual and “lively” than, for example, B. Marble types. Due to their resistance and hardness, quartzite can even be used for paving stones and walls - despite their extremely elegant and special appearance. A quartzite is, in a sense, a supermodel and a professional boxer at the same time.

The formation of quartzite begins as sandstone that metamorphoses over centuries under enormous pressure and high temperatures.

The crystals of quartz fuse together, giving the stone its remarkable density and hardness. This geological transformation gives quartzite its characteristic radiant color palette, from subtle beige tones to vibrant grays and browns, making each tabletop a unique work of art. Due to the melting of sands, some types of quartzite are even partially translucent, i.e. H. translucent like this for example Patagonia

Why quartzite is more expensive than marble

quarzit tisch

It's no secret that quartzites often command a higher price than marbles. This is also the case with us in the MAGNA Atelier.

The higher price of quartzites is due to the fact that quartzites are generally rarer and harder to mine than marble. Quartzite deposits are less common, and extraction often requires more complex processes and technologies to preserve the translucent quartz veins. The limited availability of quartzite can lead to higher procurement costs, which ultimately affects the selling price. There are many types of quartzite that we stock, whose sources, i.e. the quarries, have already completely succumbed.

Slow metamorphism under enormous pressure and heat gives quartzites not only their superior hardness, but also remarkable resistance to scratches, stains and acids. The result is a stone of the highest density, quality and longevity that will stand the test of time and bring joy to generations high quality table can provide. Investing in a quartzite table is therefore an investment in the future. Take a look in particular our exclusive line where you will find very unusual and rare quartzites.

And how do you clean these gems created by Mother Nature (and refined by us)?

Cleaning Quartzite – How do you clean quartzite tables?

With their robust hardness, seductive grain and fascinating color palette, they give every room a timeless elegance. But how can you ensure that your quartzite table top always shines in its full glory? We now dive into the art of cleaning quartzite tabletops and share tried-and-true tips on how to preserve the beauty of your quartzite and ensure its longevity.

1. Gentle cleansing is key

Always start cleaning your quartzite table top with a soft, damp microfiber cloth or sponge. Use mild soap or a pH-neutral cleaner to remove dirt and dust.

Avoid harsh cleaners or products that contain acid as these can damage the surface of the quartzite. We have something specifically for our valued customers an excellent cleaning kitt developed specifically for quartzite and marble types.

2. Treat stains immediately

If you notice spills or stains, it is important to act quickly. Wipe up the liquid immediately with an absorbent cloth or paper towel.

For more stubborn stains such as oil or staining substances, a mixture of baking soda and water can be applied to form a paste. Gently let the paste sit on the stain before wiping it off.

3. Avoid scratches

Quartzite may be sturdy, but it is not indestructible. Avoid contact with very hard, sharp objects or rough materials that could cause scratches. Use coasters or placemats to protect the surface from potential scratches.

4. Regular sealing

Although quartzite is naturally resilient, regular use of a special stone sealer can further protect the surface and increase its longevity. Make sure you use our sealer or a suitable sealer that is suitable for quartzite and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

5. Wipe dry and polish

After cleaning, it is advisable to polish the surface of your quartzite table top with a dry microfiber cloth. This gives the stone a soft shine and removes any remaining moisture.

By following these simple but effective tips, you can ensure that your quartzite tabletop shines in its full glory over the years.

Proper cleaning and care will help you preserve the timeless beauty and value of this remarkable natural stone - an investment that will pay off in the long term.
